NEWS > SSBM Students Participate in Prestigious Training Workshop in UN!

We are thrilled to announce that students from the Swiss School of Business and Management Geneva had the incredible opportunity to participate in a transformative training program on International Human Rights Mechanisms. This prestigious workshop was organized by Maat, an Egyptian NGO with special consultative status with ECOSOC since 2016, in partnership with IAPD, a Swiss NGO.

What Made This Workshop Unique?

Our students gained unparalleled exposure to the workings of the United Nations and international diplomacy while building their expertise in global human rights advocacy. This exclusive program provided them with:

  • Access to the UN Headquarters: Students explored the historic Palais des Nations in Geneva.
  • Specialized Training: Sessions focused on international human rights mechanisms, led by top experts in the field.
  • Engagement in UN Sessions: Participants observed formal country debates and discussions inside the UN.
  • Creative Participation: Students had the chance to express their voices during a peaceful rally at the iconic Broken Chair through speeches, songs, and artwork.

A Transformative Experience

SSBM students immersed themselves in this impactful program, beginning on January 24th with exclusive access to the Palais des Nations through UN badge distribution. They embarked on a guided tour that provided insights into the history and functioning of the United Nations. The introductory and training sessions delved into international human rights mechanisms, preparing students to engage in real-world diplomatic discussions. The day concluded with an observation of formal UN sessions and reflection groups where students shared their learnings.

From January 27th to 31st, students followed customized schedules with tailored sessions inside the Palais des Nations, deepening their understanding of human rights advocacy. Group training sessions, expert-led discussions, and daily feedback meetings enriched their experience, fostering collaboration and critical thinking.

Special Event: Peaceful Rally at the Broken Chair

One of the highlights of the workshop was a peaceful rally held at the iconic Broken Chair monument. Our students actively contributed to this symbolic event by delivering impactful speeches, showcasing artwork, and participating in performances that promoted peace, unity, and global solidarity.

Certificate Ceremony

On Friday, January 31, 2025, a special certificate ceremony was held to recognize the achievements of our students. SSBM Geneva’s Dean, Dr. Amir Simcox, and Dr. Olesya Meskina attended the event to personally hand out certificates, celebrating the dedication and hard work of our students throughout the workshop.

Why This Matters

This workshop aligns perfectly with SSBM Geneva’s commitment to providing students with global exposure and practical experiences that prepare them for impactful careers. The collaboration with Maat and IAPD offered our students a unique opportunity to enhance their skills, engage in diplomatic discussions, and contribute to meaningful global conversations on human rights.

We are incredibly proud of our students for representing SSBM with excellence and enthusiasm. Their participation in this prestigious program reflects our dedication to fostering future leaders equipped to make a difference in the world.
