Biography

STEM Ambassador, University of Bern / ATLAS experiment of CERN

Founding president of S4SF (Science for Sustainable Future) NGO, Geneva

Passionate about building bridges between science and society, Barbora Bruant Gulejova, acts as a boundary spanner between different silo communities. She did her Master in Physics and Management at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. Following her PhD from thermonuclear fusion (promising green energy source) from EPFL, in Lausanne, Switzerland, she continued multidisciplinary career between science labs, United Nations (in Geneva and Vienna), government (divers ministries in Slovakia), industry and education. Since 10 years she has been working at CERN and different CERN collaborations as expert in science outreach, education and communication (e.g. International Particle Physics Outreach Group IPPOG); but also knowledge & technology transfer (High Energy Physics Technology Transfer Network) and interface between Big Science infrastructures and industry. She has been a liaison of Slovakia with CERN for economic collaboration and continues to advise Slovak government on strategic engagement with Big Science large international infrastructure in order to foster innovation, economic growth and sustainability. Barbora’s  goal is to inspire current and future society leaders about the value of science for society and sustainable development. She is a founding president of NGO S4SF (Science for Sustainable Future), based in Geneva and author of succesful pilot project Youth@STEM4SF inspiring high school students in Switzerland and abroad.  Among other activities, she is currently also a STEM ambassador at University of Bern and EPFL, Society Engagement Specialist at Swiss Physical Society, expert at European Commission Working Group on Science Diplomacy, chair of IPPOG working group on Success Stories from Physics for Society, member of Physics and Industry working group of International Union of Pure and Applied Physics etc.
