At the Swiss School of Business and Management Geneva (SSBM), innovation and purpose go hand-in-hand. When we introduced the Sustainability Cockpit, our goal was clear: to quantify the impact of our commitment to a more sustainable, more conscious future. Fast-forward to 2025, and the numbers speak louder than ever.
In just two short years, we’ve more than doubled our positive environmental impact. What began as a forward-thinking initiative in 2023 has transformed into a powerful force for change.
Commute Hours Saved: From Thousands to Hundreds of Thousands
In 2023, we proudly announced that our community had saved 86,831 commute hours by embracing flexible, online-first learning models. It was a milestone worth celebrating. By 2025, that number has reached 186,135.63 total commute hours saved—an increase of 99,304.63 hours in just two years.
These are not just numbers. These are mornings spent with family instead of in traffic. These are reduced stress levels, healthier lifestyles, and a dramatically lowered carbon footprint.
Plastic Waste Avoided: Small Changes, Big Results
Even the smallest decisions—like choosing digital over print—can spark tremendous environmental results. In 2023, we reported a proud 39,725 kg reduction in plastic waste. By 2025, that figure has grown to 123,486.03 kg – an additional 83,761.03 kg of plastic kept out of our landfills and oceans.
These achievements represent not only a shift in policy but a shift in mindset. Our students, faculty, and staff are sustainability advocates, and it shows.
Energy Efficiency: Powering Smarter Learning
By 2023, our transition to efficient digital infrastructure helped us save 326,629 kilowatt-hours of electricity. But we didn’t stop there. As of 2025, that figure has jumped to 1,015,330.81 kWh, which means 688,701.81 kWh more in just two years.
Through optimized systems, smarter tools, and a culture of digital mindfulness, SSBM is proving that education can be both powerful and energy-efficient.
CO2 Emissions Cut: A Leap Towards a Greener Future
In 2023, the Cockpit showed us the power of collective action: 1,403,203 kg of CO2 emissions saved. That alone was equivalent to removing hundreds of cars from the road for an entire year.
But in 2025, our impact had soared to 3,007,951.70 kg of CO2 saved. That’s an additional 1,604,748.7 kilograms – or over 3,000 metric tons – of carbon dioxide not released into our atmosphere. It’s more than a statistic; it’s a statement. We are serious about sustainability.
What This Means for the Future
The Sustainability Cockpit is more than a dashboard—it’s a mirror reflecting our values, our discipline, and our drive. It holds us accountable, and it fuels our momentum.
In just two years, we’ve proven that with intention, innovation, and collective commitment, real change is not only possible – it’s scalable.
As we look ahead, we’re energized by what we’ve achieved – and even more inspired by what’s next. At SSBM Geneva, sustainability is not an initiative. It’s a way of life.
