At the Swiss School of Business and Management Geneva, our students are continuously immersed in courses combining theoretical knowledge and practical application. Recently, the final classes for two insightful courses took place at our Zagreb Instructional Site, marking the culmination of enriching learning experiences for students.
The courses in focus were The Human Side of Leadership, led by Prof. Dr. Saša Petar, and Financial Statement Analysis and Reporting, taught by Hrvoje Volarević, PhD. These classes not only concluded a semester of rigorous academic study but also underscored the importance of blending leadership acumen with financial expertise in today’s dynamic business world.
The Human Side of Leadership: Empathy and Connection in Leadership
In The Human Side of Leadership, Prof. Dr. Saša Petar guided students through leadership’s nuances beyond strategy and vision. This course emphasized the importance of emotional intelligence, empathy, and interpersonal skills in leadership roles. Prof. Petar encouraged students to engage with the human aspects of leadership — how to motivate, inspire, and lead with compassion in diverse professional settings.
Through engaging discussions and case studies, students gained valuable insights into how great leaders connect with their teams personally, create inclusive environments, and foster growth and innovation. Prof. Petar’s expert approach helped students grasp the critical importance of understanding the human side of leadership, preparing them for real-world challenges.
Financial Statement Analysis and Reporting: Navigating the Numbers
On the other side of the spectrum, Financial Statement Analysis and Reporting was led by Hrvoje Volarević, PhD, who provided students with a deep dive into the financial side of business management. This course was designed to give students the tools to interpret financial statements, analyze key metrics, and make informed decisions that affect the financial health of organizations.
Dr. Volarević’s approach blended theory with practical application, enabling students to gain proficiency in interpreting balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports. The course also emphasized the importance of transparency and accurate reporting in financial management, essential skills for aspiring leaders and financial professionals. By the end of the course, students were equipped with the ability to assess financial health and communicate their findings effectively.
A Thank You to Our Professors
As these courses come to an end, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Dr. Saša Petar and Hrvoje Volarević, PhD, for their dedication and commitment to the students’ academic growth. Their expertise and guidance have been invaluable in shaping the next generation of business leaders and financial experts.
