Useful Information

Health Care and Health Insurance

It is essential to understand how the French healthcare system operates. To obtain your residence permit (“Carte de Séjour”), you must provide proof of health coverage, either through the French Social Security system or private medical insurance. This proof, known as “couverture sociale,” requires a certificate from your insurance provider stating the company’s name (“raison sociale”), your personal details (“état civil”), the policy duration, and the coverage provided (which must include both doctor and hospital expenses).

All students are required to have their own health and accident insurance, covering the period from their departure to their return home. This coverage must meet the standards set by the Admissions office, which can assist in selecting the best insurance plan for your needs. Please note that the Swiss School of Business and Management is not responsible for students who do not secure adequate medical insurance.

Cost of Living

The cost of living in Paris for students can vary depending on lifestyle, but it’s generally considered higher than in other cities. On average, students should budget for accommodation, food, transportation, and leisure activities, with rent being the largest expense. Living in student residences or shared apartments can help reduce costs. Public transportation is affordable, and students can benefit from discounts on cultural activities and entertainment. Overall, students should plan for a monthly budget ranging from €1,000 to €1,500 to cover their basic living expenses in Paris.

Other Tips

For students in Paris, always carry your student ID for discounts on transport, museums, and cultural activities. Use public transport passes like the Navigo card for affordable travel, and consider cooking at home or dining at student cafeterias (CROUS) to save on food. Learn some basic French to help with daily interactions, and start searching early for student housing options like shared apartments. Finally, make sure your health insurance meets the French requirements and explore part-time job opportunities for extra income.
