Why did you choose to study your DBA at SSBM Geneva?
After the United States and Asia, I have worked in Stockholm, Sweden, for the longest time of my career. In my view, Switzerland is considered for its high-quality services and compliance in Europe. It attracted me to choose SSBM Geneva for higher education. I like the quality of education, which helped me innovate a new cybersecurity framework going through the process of DBA program design. I am thankful to my mentor and all the professors and staff working with SSBM Geneva for their valuable support and timely guidance.
Can you share some insights into your journey from being an SSBM alumni and completing a doctorate program and eventually publishing a book that reached #81 overall in Kindle books and #1 in the Security & Encryption category on Amazon Kindle?
As a cybersecurity auditor and solution provider in various countries, I was aware at ground level that there was something lagging in adopting cybersecurity, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs or SMBs). There are 400 million of these organizations, which is 90% of the business population, contributing 55% of GDP in developed economies and 60 to 70% of global employment opportunities. Around half of these organizations are always facing cyber threats, which are the biggest threat to the global economy; hence, they need to be protected against cybercriminals. Hence, I chose a subject related to it for my doctorate topic at SSBM Geneva.
During my research, I had the opportunity to interact with and gather input from the top management of hundreds of SMEs and SMBs from 19 different countries. There were three major problems they were facing in terms of adopting existing cybersecurity standards.
- Firstly, these organizations do not have enough funds to invest in hundreds of cybersecurity controls.
- Secondly, they don’t have skilled resources to implement or maintain cybersecurity.
- Finally, top management is not able to see a return on investment (RoI) for their business goals after investing money, time, and resources in cybersecurity control implementation.
My DBA topic got fine-tuned during this research journey as “Business Domain Specific Least Cybersecurity Controls Implementation (BDSLCCI)” — where I have invented a new approach where organizations get tailored cybersecurity controls required to protect their business goals along with overall least cybersecurity for all layers of the organization. It results in a 6-to-10-fold reduction in cybersecurity controls to be implemented, resulting in a low investment of time, money, and resources to adopt BDSLCCI.
- BDSLCCI research paper published to Elsevier’s highly indexed JJIMEI international journal in the mid of year 2022 with title “LCCI: A framework for least cybersecurity controls to be implemented for small and medium enterprises (SMEs)”.
- On 29th May 2023, BDSLCCI related chapter has been published in book by Emeralds Publishing, UK with title “Smart Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Performance Management in a Global Digitalised Economy”
- In September 2023, BDSLCCI has been published as a book in paperback and e-book format. It is available in more than 150 countries via different platforms as Amazon, Kobo, Flipkart, Google Play, etc. For few days, it is available as FREE kindle book on Amazon for readers.
