Business Intelligence

The course is designed to prepare students to successfully recognize performance challenges, gaps and implement properly capacitated solutions. The course is taught using problem-solving exercises, discussion questions, and challenging case studies. Idea is to concentrate on different challenges confronting SMEs and corporate businesses in different stages of their development and growth (historical & current) while overcoming challenges that may occur in the future.

About Instructor: Mirko Bilandžić, PhD

Dr. Mirko Bilandžić is a permanent scientific advisor and full professor at the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb.
At the Department of Sociology, he holds three courses: “Sociology of National and International Security”, “Sociology of the Army and War” and “Terrorism and Society”.
He introduced and brought terrorism studies to the academic level in the Republic of Croatia. He also teaches at the University of Zagreb’s Military Academy, where he holds the module for military intelligence specialisation.
He teaches at four doctoral studies: at the Departments of Sociology and Information and Communication Sciences of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb (course: Introduction to Intelligence Studies); at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Zagreb (course: Economy and International Security); at the University North (course: Corporate Security and Business Intelligence); and at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Split (course: Medicine and Security).
He also teaches at the intergovernmental academic program Intelligence College in Europe, and as a guest lecturer at the International War School of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia.
He is the co-author of the postgraduate specialist study program “Crisis Management” at the University of Zagreb, of which he has been the leader since 2011. Since 2008, he has been the editor-in-chief of the journal Polemos: Journal for Interdisciplinary Research on War and Peace.
He is the head of the Department of Military Sociology at the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb.
He served as the security director of the European University Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016. Areas of special scientific interest are a number of areas primarily within the framework of sociological science and political science: national security, international security, societal security, terrorism, counter-terrorism, intelligence studies, comparative systems of national security, conflict theories, power theories.
As a result of his scientific and research work, he published 10 books, about 50 scientific and professional papers, and produced about 40 reviews and reviews of books and papers in scientific and professional journals. His more important books are: Sport and National Security: Terrorism, Espionage and Corruption in Football and Other Sports (2019, co-author); National Security: Threat Forecasting (2019); Seeds of Evil: An Introduction to Terrorism Studies (2014), Business Intelligence in Practice (2008); Northern Ireland Between War and Peace (2005); Basics of National Security (2005, co-author) and Diplomacy and Intelligence Activity (1998).
